MooMoo did not zZz at all the night before the climb. She went to bed around 8pm hoping to restore her energy but kept checking the time every hour starting 830pm. Guess it's just not MooMoo's usual sleeping time... maybe it was just too cold or she was just too excited or worried about the climb. Hahaha…
After awhile, the orchestra of ‘snoring’ started and it went throughout the night till 1:45am... MooMoo stayed awake all the way till there was knocking on the door. She went to get the door and woke everyone up. All got ready in their gears and went down for breakfast at 2am. It was so cold that she just don’t bother to go wash her face and brush her teeth. Anyway, she didn’t sleep at all so makes not much difference to brush her teeth or not. Hahaha… So early… just can’t force much food down her throat… managed to drink Horlicks and ate a couple of biscuits for some energy.
After breakfast, we got ready all our stuff… putting on our windbreakers, beanies and headlights, as well as our shoes. Off we start our 2nd half climbing at 02:45am. Suppose to start at 02:30am but due to some technical errors, we started off a bit late. Piggy almost forgot her Climbing Permit pass but lucky her…remembering it when she was putting on her shoes. Piggy faced some issues with her headlight as well. The guide almost fainted when he saw Piggy's friend was using a mini torch light instead of a headlight.
It was dark, cold and wet that early morning… everyone was just sleepy and lazy to move about. The 2nd half of the journey was shorter in distance but tougher compared to the 1st half. It was another hike of 2.5km up to the peak and about 1km hike to reach the Sayat-Sayat checkpoint to register before heading all the way up to the peak.
If you’re fit, you should be able to reach the peak within 3-4 hours to watch the sunrise around 530-600am. MooMoo took about 2-3 hours to reach the Sayat-Sayat checkpoint. It got more and more difficult to breathe and more tiring towards the peak. Guess it makes a difference if you train and if you do not train.
At about 0600am, after passing the checkpoint, our mountain guide gathered all of us at one corner. There were only 4 of us left as Piggy decided to stay back at the Sayat-Sayat hut to rest and continue the ‘Via Ferrata’ activity. She actually managed to zZz a couple of hours there while waiting for us.
Our mountain guide actually asked us to decide whether to proceed all the way to the peak or return back to Sayat-Sayat Hut for the 'Via Ferrata' activity. This is because we will not make it for the Sunrise at the rate we climb and there’s time limit for us to be back before 8am in order to make it for the ‘Via Ferrata’ activity.
After much consideration, MooMoo's bit disappointed that everyone decided to give up and go for the 'Via Ferrata' activity. MooMoo felt that it is not worth it just to give up since there were only about 500m to go to reach the peak. She told the guide that she 'die-die' also wanna climb all the way to the peak and decided to give up the ‘Via Ferrata’ activity instead. He told the rest to descend slowly while he took me up the peak.
Well, MooMoo really got to give much thanks to the guide for making it all the way to the Peak and actually made it back on time at Sayat-Sayat Hut at 0745am.
It’s really ‘Amazing’… coz MooMoo took about 45 mins from the Peak to the checkpoint. If she were to do it herself, it will take forever coz it’s always more difficult for her to descend than to ascend. Most of the time, the guide was grabbing her on the hand and drag her all the way up and down.
MooMoo was so tired that she didn’t have much energy to take picture so the guide actually kept her camera in his pocket and helped her take all the pictures. Guess the real reason he kept the camera is that he didn't want MooMoo spending too much time snapping pictures on the way down. Hahaha... A bit disappointed on the pictures though… there were unwanted people, standing by the side in most of the pictures. Well, at least a couple of them turn out well.
After all the hard work in the climbing journey, it’s really worth it when you get to see the breathtaking scenery. MooMoo was pretty lucky that it didn’t rain when she was at the peak so managed to have a good view of the mountain.
MooMoo is so GLAD that she made it all the way to the PEAK. I CAN DO IT!! ^=^
